Writer's Block: Cinco de Mayo

Do you celebrate your country's independence? If so, how?

I heard a rumor that Grito de Dolores is an entirely different holiday.

Independence from whom? I'm not sure what the date was when the legions withdrew and left us at the mecry of the "barbarians" anyway.

And I suspect I'm probably descended from the barbarians. :-D

Don't feel too bad. "Barbarian" was just another word for "not Roman enough." :)

To be precise 'Barbarian' was a Greek word, barbaroi (meaning to mumble unintelligibly) for those who didn't speak Greek (and the definition included the Romans :o)

Last time we got conquered here was by William the Bastard in 1066 so I don't think that counts :o)

I guess I could celebrate the Risorgimento or Garibaldi's birthday like my Italian rellies!
